| JINI PATEL THOMPSON'S WILD OREGANO OIL PROTOCOL |
| The following treatment protocol is based on Inflammatory Bowel Disease being an infectious disease, or, having an infectious component. The following Four Phase protocol should: | |||
| Eliminate infectious microorganisms (like mycobacterium, fungi, bacteria, yeast, viruses, parasites, etc.) | |||
| Provide a moderate level of detoxification | |||
| Restore beneficial gut flora | |||
PHASE 1 PHASE 2 PHASE 3 PHASE 4 Repeat all four Phases whenever you have a flare, or symptoms begin to return. May need to be repeated every 3-4 months for 2-3 years (the dormant/active cycle of mycobacterium) to completely clear all intestinal infection and restore gut flora. If symptoms start again during Phase 4, return to Phase 1 and begin again. You may also want to experiment with dosage and frequency of Wild Oregano Oil and Natren probiotics for ongoing use - maybe you only need to follow Phase 3 to bring symptoms under control. Or, maybe you'd like to alternate a few days with Wild Oregano Oil, then a few days with probiotics. You may also wish to ease yourself slowly into Phase 1 and only take the Wild Oregano Oil 1-2x/day for the first few days or a week, then begin Phase 1. Follow your gut! Your body always knows exactly what it needs. If you are currently following The IBD Remission Diet, you can use this Protocol before, after, or, simultaneously with the Diet, but you do not need the Bentonite Clay (unless needed for diarrhea control) and do not use psyllium. Natren brand probiotics are VITAL in Phases 2-4, but there's no point in taking them during Phase 1, since high doses of Wild Oregano Oil may largely negate probiotic activity. The Wild Oregano Oil dosage in Phase 1 is equivalent to a course of Vancomycin, or other potent antibiotic, therefore MUST be followed by probiotics. If you tend towards diarrhea, then you must use the Natren probiotics in POWDER form (available in Dairy-based, or, Dairy-free). If your bowel movements are normal or tend towards constipation, then you can use the capsules (Healthy Trinity) if you prefer. I prefer the powders since they re-populate with good bacteria from the mouth on down, but if you find it too much hassle you can use the capsules. The powders are also cheaper than the capsules. Remember to always take probiotics on an empty stomach and use filtered or spring water only. I stipulate that you must use Natren brand probiotics (www.natren.com) as they are the only brand that currently meets potency and bioavailability standards (at time of consumption, not packaging!) for effective gut reflorastation. There are many sites currently selling counterfeit Natren products - they reproduce the label, but the contents are not the same, therefore, if buying online, I suggest you buy only from www.natren.com. Bentonite Clay is a wonderful detoxification agent and also a remedy for diarrhea. If you find yourself detoxifying too quickly (nausea, headaches, etc.), then reduce the dose or only use every second or third day. If you tend towards constipation, you may not be able to use it at all since it does absorb a lot of water and firm up the stool. It is not essential to the success of the Protocol, I have simply included it for the detox benefits. IMPORTANT: The dosage given here for Wild Oregano Oil is for Oregano Oil that has already been diluted in a carrier oil (most brands are) like Olive Oil. 5 drops of diluted Wild Oregano Oil is equivalent to 1-2 drops of pure, undiluted Wild Oregano Oil. Remember to always dilute pure (undiluted) Oregano Oil in a carrier oil before using internally or externally. WARNING: Ideally, for best results, you should wean yourself off all drugs before beginning this Protocol (see your doctor or my books for weaning instructions). However, if that is not possible, then DO NOT follow this Protocol if you are using 3 or more prescription drugs. It will not be safe for your liver. Wild Oregano Oil is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, nor for children under age 5. For children under age 12, you will need to reduce the dosages here according to their age. Use Young's Formula or consult your doctor to calculate appropriate dosage. |

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A BRAND OF WILD OREGANO OIL: |
| a. | Oregano Oil is like probiotics, in that the species and strain are very important to obtain the desired action/results. Make sure you get: Species: Oreganum Vulgare Subspecies: Hirtum is one of several that are good. |
| b. | High in naturally-occurring Carvacrol, the species must have naturally-occurring high levels of Carvacrol - not just extra Carvacrol added in later. If you get a brand with the correct species and subspecies, this will not be a problem. | ||
| c. | Low in Thymol - a naturally occurring compound in Oregano Oil that must be present as it works synergistically with Carvacrol. But, too much is hard on the liver, check that levels do not exceed 5%. | ||
| Use Oil of Oregano by Joy of the Mountains brand (best). See their website for LOTS more quality information on Wild Oregano Oil (www.joyofthemountains.com). Or, Oreganol, by North American Herb & Spice Company is also good. If you use another brand that does not conform to the specifications here, then you may not have the same results. | |||
| Wild Oregano Oil (Oreganum Vulgare) is also an anti-inflammatory in addition to being an extremely potent antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic, etc. | |||
| Wild Oregano Oil feels 'spicy hot' when you swallow it (or when it touches any mucous membrane). So, the best way to take it is to fill the dropper with 5 drops, tilt your head back and shoot the contents of the dropper to the back of your throat. Immediately follow with lots of water or juice, and keep chugging till heat sensation disappears (about 10 seconds). Always shake dropper bottle well before using. Since you are taking the Wild Oregano Oil on an empty stomach, it is important to follow it with lots of water (4-8 ounces). You must take the Wild Oregano Oil on an empty stomach for maximum uptake and potency. If this is too difficult in Phase 1, then make sure at least 3 of the 5 doses are taken on an empty stomach. | |||
| If you cannot take the Wild Oregano Oil in liquid form, you can take it in the equivalent dosage of gelcaps. Swallow gelcaps (on an empty stomach) wait five or ten minutes, then drink 4-8 ounces of water. However, take in liquid form if you can as it is most potent. | |||
| If you also have mouth ulcers or a gum infection: sip a mouthful of water and hold it in your mouth. Add the five drops of Wild Oregano Oil to the mouthful of water and then swish together around your mouth and gums for as long as you can stand it, then swallow. Leave it if you can tolerate the heat, if you can't, then sip water till heat sensation subsides. Alternatively, you can simply drop some Oregano Oil onto your finger and rub directly onto the mouth ulcer(s) or infected gum/tooth. Leave as long as possible and then drink water if needed. | |||
| You should also apply Wild Oregano Oil directly to any localized infection on skin, nails, mouth etc., 2-3 times/day. However, when applying to genitalia or anal area you MUST dilute the Oregano Oil further. Dilute with olive oil 10:1 or 15:1 (i.e. 15 drops of olive oil to one drop of oregano oil) before applying to genitalia or anal area. For babies or toddlers dilute 15:1 or 20:1 for diaper, anal or genital area. Always shake bottle containing dilution well before using. Excellent for treating yeast (candida), fungal, bacterial infections, herpes, etc. For fistulas, try to drop the Oregano Oil directly into the fistula hole/opening and then massage gently with your finger to rub it in. For more instructions on topical applications, go to: www.joyofthemountains.com | |||
| Added bonus is you probably won't get any flus/colds whilst taking it! | |||
IMPORTANT: If you abandon this treatment protocol without finishing the fourth phase, you MUST supplement with Natren brand probiotics to restore good bacterial flora to your gut. Wild Oregano Oil is a very potent antibiotic and MUST be followed with probiotics. When you have completed this protocol, please let me know how it worked for you and/or any feedback you might have. I will collate people's feedback/experience and then we can all share information with each other.
